Apartments are More Comfortable with Portable Air Conditioners

The best air conditioner to use to cool your apartment are small portable air conditioners. They are more practical for using in apartments and easier for you to move around than large and portable units.

The reason people like these portable air conditioners more than large window air conditioners is because they are cheaper than them. Portable air conditioners are not only cheaper in its cost, but are also much cheaper to operate than the operating costs of larger units. This results in your getting cheaper bills than you would have received with larger air conditioners. You find that the latest portable and small air conditioner models are also more energy efficient than their older models.

If you have a large apartment, a portable air conditioner may not be sufficient for the entire apartment. The best thing to do would be to install the air conditioner in your bedroom for a good night’s sleep and have fans in other rooms.

Small portable air conditioners are also called windowless air conditioners as they don’t need any window for installation. To prevent warm air from getting into the room, they are vented outside.

While the vent hose is put out a window or some other room, its condensed water is collected in buckets.Don’t forget to empty these buckets as they fill.Condensed water is circulated over the condenser, and vented out the vent hose in some models of portable air conditioners which have pumps.
Before you actually buy a portable air conditioner, it is better to first find out as much as you can about the available products. You will find that there are quite a few companies in the market with a large variety of models of air conditioners for you to choose from. You have to find out, and decide which is the best option for use in your home based on the capacity and features of the air conditioner, the size of your apartment and of course, your budget.

Trvs to Help Domestic Energy Conservation Efforts

Tal Potishman asked:

Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) have proven to be a hit seller in the UK in recent years and as such become an important part in fighting global warming. All central heating radiators must be fitted with a TRV, following the amendment to the Building Regulations introduced in 2002. The amendment to the Building Regulations requires TRVs to be fitted on all newly installed domestic radiators. Such new requirement has clearly help the TRV market more than double in volume (from around 3.7 million units sold in 1995 to more than 7.5 million in 2003).

With the high profile of global warming in the news, the UK government has set a stretching target for reducing carbon emissions. Along with the Kyoto protocol, the government intends to lead the way within the developed world in terms of reducing the UK’s impact on the environment. The protocol signed by the UK in 1997 sets a target of reducing the baseline emissions of six key greenhouse gases by 12.5% compared to 1990 levels. The UK government has gone further and set a more challenging target of 20% compared to the 1990 baseline, with a long term goal of reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 60% by 2050.

According to Building regulations Part L, central heating engineers must install only A- or B-rated central heating components (such as condensing boilers) that are environmentally friendly and deliver high energy efficiency performance. At current levels, around 400 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions are released into the atmosphere every year purely as a result of heating our homes. The total emissions level of the domestic sector is even higher and stands on 535 million tonnes per year.

TRVs help reduce wasted heat by allowing the user to set the desired temperature in each room separately. This way the user doesn’t need to heat unused rooms just to get the right temperature in rooms that are used. TRV manufacturers have made the kits not only technically effective but also visually pleasing. Most new units now have polished stainless steel finish which looks nice and is easy to clean.

Modern TRVs use a system of liquid filled controls. Unlike the wax-filled valves that were used in the past, the liquid is more sensitive and as such much quicker to react to changes in ambient temperature. This feature makes the liquid filled Thermostatic Radiator Valve better at adjusting the room temperature when there are changes (such as opening the front door).

Installing a TRV is a major step in reducing wasted heating energy. Nevertheless, it would be a wasted effort if the homeowner (or tenant) is not properly educated on how to use the TRVs effectively to save them money and reduce their carbon footprint. It is estimated that by installing TRVs and using them effectively a home owner can reduce their heating costs by up to 17%.

Another industry that has grown under the TRV umbrella has been the towel warmer. Closely linked to the TRV technology, towel rails have grown to be a 33 million industry last year, with an estimated volume for this year of around 1 million units.

Engineering – Check That Engineers Are Certified

Tal Potishman asked:

When it comes time to hire a professional to install your new gas and heating systems, price is absolutely going to be one of your top priorities. You should remember, however, to take care to make sure that the engineer you hire to install your gas and heating systems has all of the correct credentials. No matter how much money you allot for your renovation and rebuilding budget it is vitally important that your potential engineer is properly certified by the correct organization.

Even though readers might not want to believe this, there are quite a few people operating as engineers in the United Kingdom who have not been properly registered with Corgi, the authority for heating and gas engineers in this country. These engineers lie to their clients and tell them that they are registered with Corgi even though they are not. Some of these impostors will even create false Corgi documents to convince clients of their registration!

The most notorious engineer impostor to make the recent news is David Mees. Mees made news all over the United Kingdom when one of his clients discovered his extremely shoddy and dangerous work during a final home inspection and discovered that not only was he not Corgi certified but that the clients’ home could not pass inspection until a real Corgi inspector had redone the work. Mees had even advertised in the local telephone directory with a fake Corgi identification number!

The work done by Mees was done so badly that, had the clients attempted to use any of the wiring or piping they had installed, the clients could have risked imminent destruction of their homes or injury to themselves!

Heating and gas systems are complicated things and it is vital that they are installed properly and that everything about them is up to safety codes. Corgi engineers are well versed in these codes and are required to make sure that they stay current on them. The best way to ensure that you will, in fact, hire a Corgi registered engineer is to call Corgi and check the names of each of your potential engineers. This can be done by calling 0800 915 0485.

It is a good idea to check with your local business bureau to find out if any complaints have been filed against the engineer that you are considering for your home’s construction or renovation. You should also ask any potential engineer for a list of references and his work history. If the engineer hesitates before providing either of these, you should seriously consider moving on to the next candidate.

Gas and heating systems, when not properly installed, can cause great harm to both a home’s structural integrity and the health of the people who live in it!
