Don’t Wait Until Winter to Check Your Central Heating

Ivor Bates asked:

With the onset of autumn, it won’t be long before householders start to switch on their heating systems. But if you leave it until the colder weather draws in to test run your system then find it is not in full working order, you could be in for the long haul whilst waiting for an engineer to call to fix the problem.

For this reason it is vital that everyone test runs their central heating systems during the early autumn whilst they still have a chance of getting an engineer out in a minimum time frame should they encounter problems.

Any plumbing or heating engineer will tell you the number of calls they get come October or November is exceptionally high. As soon as those first frosts of winter bite, plumbers are inundated with requests for central heating repairs and new installations.

Naturally, all the calls are urgent as people are suffering without their heating as the winter chills take hold. This can be particularly concerning for the more elderly homeowners who, without the warmth of their surroundings, can be at serious risk.

Taking the time to test your system earlier in the autumn means you will have a better chance of getting an engineer out sooner whilst it is still relatively warm and the matter is not so urgent. Make sure that you also test the systems of elderly relatives or neighbours to make sure they are ready for the winter too.

In summary, the advice to remember is, check central heating systems in September or early October. Make sure they are in full working order. If you detect even the slightest problem, then call a trusted, CORGI registered engineer out immediately so that it can be fixed before the cold weather sets in.

Get Your Boiler Serviced Before the Winter Rush!

Ivor Bates asked:

There is no getting away from the fact that your boiler has to be serviced regularly – at least once a year - so that it continues to work properly. Servicing can help to avert any potential problems before they occur. However, many people decide that early winter is a good time to make sure their boiler is in full working order, and are then faced with a long wait because every boiler engineer in the country is busy servicing, repairing and installing new boilers because everyone had the same idea.

The best time, therefore, to have your boiler serviced is in the summer or early autumn months when demand is lower. This will give you peace of mind that probably the most important piece of equipment in your home is in full working order and ready to serve you through the cold winter period.

What does a boiler service involve?

As well as dealing with any problems that you report and replacing any worn parts, the CORGI boiler engineer will carry out a visual internal and external inspection to check there is no visible damage to the boiler. If any evidence of damage is found then the relevant replacement or repair will be made.

Whilst the engineer that fitted your boiler or repaired it for you previously may well have diarised to contact you in a year’s time for an annual service, this doesn’t mean you can ignore any problems that may arise in the meantime until that service comes round. If you notice any of the following then you should call your engineer immediately:

The temperature and pressure that the boiler normally operates under suddenly drops or changes drastically

The water level falls to an unusually low level

The low water cut off does not work properly when it is tested

There is a change in the temperature or pressure of the feed water

Boiler Servicing: Manufacturers Demand it

The majority of boiler manufacturers recommend an annual service, and in many cases the warranty of the boiler is dependent on a service being conducted.

Whilst many people are currently tightening their belts and trying to keep household costs to a minimum due to the economic downturn, foregoing a boiler service simply cannot and must not be an option. It may seem like an expense ill afforded, but it will offer serious cost savings in the future should anything go wrong resulting in the need for a new boiler.

If your boiler starts to function below its normal level of efficiency then it will usually mean that it needs servicing sooner rather than later. Don’t wait until winter to check your boiler, and don’t wait until your annual service date if you notice anything unusual. Call your CORGI boiler engineer as soon as you notice any signs of inefficiency so that the boiler remains as efficient – and more importantly as safe - as possible.

The Benefits of Under Floor Heating

Ivor Bates asked:

Under floor heating (UFH) is becoming increasingly popular in homes throughout Europe and it is no wonder as its benefits for health, energy efficiency, visual appeal, space saving and cost effectiveness are vast.

Under floor heating is most commonly used in bathrooms but it is also a popular choice for extensions and conservatories or anywhere wall space is limited or there is a desire to maintain a high standard of visual appeal without wall mounted radiators spoiling the look.

How Under Floor Heating Works

Under floor heating has been used since Roman times as a central heating system.

Any type of gas fuelled boiler can be used to provide the heat for a UFH system. Pipes are usually run underneath the floor surface and the heat from the water passing through the pipes transfers directly into the floor.

A warm floor creates warm air convection and this in turn heats the surrounding living space. Under floor heating is an exceptionally straightforward but highly effective way of providing a comfortably warm indoor climate with an even distribution of heat.

Five Reasons to Choose an Under Floor Heating System for your Home

There are many benefits associated with Under Floor Heating and these include:

1. Comfort

Heat radiating from the floor upwards is far more evenly distributed than heat that emanates from wall mounted radiators. Heat from wall mounted radiators is confined to a small area and rises upwards. This means that the warmer air stays around head height which doesn’t tend to create the most comfortable feeling. Additionally, compared to traditional radiator systems there are no irritating noises arising from expanding and contracting pipes.

2. Cost effectiveness and energy efficiency

Under floor heating systems can give you a 15-40% energy saving over traditional heating methods.

3. Health

Under floor heating helps to keep moisture content levels low which means that house dust mites can be reduced. This will benefit anyone with asthma or breathing difficulties or any other allergies.

4. Ease of control

With a UFH system, the temperature of each room can be controlled individually. Being able to adjust temperature settings in each room of the house is a major benefit for any family.

5. Space and Aesthetics

Under floor heating saves space and offers heightened visual appeal in a home by eliminating the need for wall mounted radiators. Additionally, wet floors dry more quickly and décor is maintained due to a lack of damp walls.

If you are re-thinking your home heating system, refurbishing a room or adding an extension or conservatory to your property then you should give serious consideration to installing an under floor heating system as opposed to a traditional wall mounted radiator central heating system; the benefits are many!

Its All About Solar Panels Galway Ireland

Abir Roychowdhury asked:

Solar panel has numerous advantages. It is powered by natural light. It minimizes your gas and oil costs by reducing the consumption of gas and oil. Solar panel uses renewable energy from sun. Solar panel converts both direct and indirect sunlight. Even if the panel does not get direct sunlight it can function as there is sufficient solar energy even on a cloudy day. So the solar panel gets ample thermal energy to function. The solar panel absorbs sunlight when it strikes the panel. After that thermal energy gets converted into heat energy.

The copper heat transfer pipe of the solar panel contains heat transfer fluid. This heat transfer fluid gets heated up when thermal energy is converted into heat energy. The heating system of the panel contains a digital controller, which activates the pump when the temperature of the solar panel surpasses the temperature in your hot water cylinder. The pump stops automatically when the cylinder has enough hot water.

Solar panel is used in all the places and Galway, Ireland is no exception. Galway, Ireland has a number of Solar Panel Power System providers. You can go for different types of solar panels such as Solar Focus CPC Collector or Solar Focus Sunny Line Collector. You can also opt for Vitosol 100 Solar Panel or Vitosol 200 Solar Panel. These companies of Galway, Ireland are well known world wide for their professional, fast and efficient installation of solar panel.

Many countries have been benefited from solar panel. Ireland is one of them. Solar panel system meets various requirements of the consumer. Solar panels can empower all sorts of electronic equipments. Solar panels can be used for running batteries, chargers, pool heaters, water pumps, water heaters, cells, indoor and outdoor lightning and many more. Solar panels are suitable for not only DHW. It can also support the central heating. A solar panel can satisfy up to 70% of your hot water requirements. Thus it has become a major energy choice of Galway as well as many other places.

Solar panels can be installed in both new and existing houses. In case of new houses the panel can be set on the roof from where the solar panel can directly absorb heat and sunlight. For existing houses solar panel can be fixed onto the brackets attached to the roof. Other than personal properties solar panels can be set at commercial buildings as well.

Solar panels are very useful as they can provide free energy source while the price of electricity and central heating fuel is increasing day by day. Besides they have long service life and high operation safety which make it preferred by people. Use of sustainable energy has increased in Galway, Ireland as well as in other places as sustainable energy is environment friendly and it can be produced safely and economically. Solar panels do not have any kind of negative effect on the environment. These panels serve our purpose without disturbing the environmental balance. Use of sustainable energy also restricts use of non-renewable sources of energy. The increasing demand of Solar panels reflects its popularity among people.
